Bibliographic summary

Claude Lecomte is a professor in condensed matter physics, crystallography at the department of physics , university Henri Poincare –Nancy1 ;he is director of the CNRS UMR CRM2 ( Crystallography Magnetic Resonance and Modelling ) and of the Institute Jean Barriol for molecular and biomolecular sciences . He is the Vice President of the International Union of Crystallography (IUCr).

He received his PhD from Nancy University and was a post doctoral fellow with Pr P Coppens ( Buffalo ) where he worked on experimental modelling of electron densities from High Resolution X ray diffraction data .His current research interest s include methodological and instrumental developments on experimental electron , spin and momentum density and their applications to magnetic molecular materials , piezoelectric and diffraction under electric field ,zeolites, coordination compounds and proteins : his recent work concerns a model of electronic structure based on the 1 particule reduced density matrix as a unifying quantity for a joint interpretation of Xray , Neutrons , polarized Neutrons and Compton scattering data and electron density studies on coordination compounds ( chemical bond between second row transition metals and ligands) and molecular crystals ( intermolecular interactions , dipole moments) . He still has a large interest on ultra high resolution refinements on proteins ( software Mopro) has co-authored more than 240 papers , 150 invited lectures or seminars. He was coeditor of Acta Cryst. A and B during 9 years and past-chairman of the Charge Spin and Momentum IUCr commission.

His honours include the chair of the French crystallographic association (1997 2001) , the chair of the European crystallographic association ( ECA) (2000-2003) . He was recently laureate of the ECA prize ( Max Perutz) for his work on methodological developments of charge density analysis and their applications ( August 2010).

He is now vice president of IUCr since august 2011 until 2014. He also is a member of the C10 commission ( condensed matter ) of International Union of Pure and Applied Physics (IUPAP).

He was a member of university and CNRS national committees in physics He has chaired ECM19 ( more than 1000 participants) held August 2000 in Nancy .He was chairman of the Gordon Conferences Research meeting Electrons distributions and chemical bonds (2001) He was a scientific manager at the French ministry of research for condensed matter physics and physics doctoral schools( 2003 -2007) and was in charge of the evaluation of the physics laboratories in France ( AERES 2008 -2010) .He has participated to numerous international review panels related to condensed matter and large facilities ( DFG ,Canada, Italy, ESRF, SPRING8 ) He was a member of the executive committee of the French German University ( UFA) ,in charge of research .During his AFC chair, he initiated the CRISTAL beamline at SOLEIL and participated to its design . One of his responsibilities at ECA and IUCr is promoting crystallography in developing countries ( lectures , PhD students, launching crystallography associations in Maghreb and sub saharian Africa )Being vice president of IUCr , he will continue promoting crystallography in developing countries mostly in Africa : organizing schools , meetings and PhD programs with the IUCr support within its program ‘Crystallography in Africa’.
